Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Sept. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Basin for lifelong Big Horn Basin resident, George Warren Paumer, 78, who died Tuesday, Sept. 13 at his home in Basin.
A viewing will be held Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Atwood Family Funeral Chapel in Basin from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will follow Monday services at the Mount View Cemetery in Basin with full military rites.
He was born March 23, 1927, in Basin, son of Joseph Albert and Anna Katherine (Christiansen) Paumer. He graduated from Basin High School and attended college in Powell, later transferring to the University of Wyoming at Laramie.
He served his country with pride and honor in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. George was so proud of his grandson, Jeremy, now serving his country in Iraq.
He married Jean Sand July 2, 1950, in Powell.
George enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He enjoyed ranching, riding horses in the mountains, pushing cows and working.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Basin and was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Basin and the Elks Lodge in Greybull. He was a member of the Tanner Post No. 29 of the American Legion at Basin.
He served on the Manderson/Hyattville school board for several years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Jean, in Basin; his three sons, Rich (Lynn) Paumer of Ogallala, Nebr., Steve (Kim) Paumer of Worland and Dave (Sheila) Paumer of Hyattville; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brother, Stan (Louise) Paumer of Moorpark, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
