(June 12, 1949 - June 1, 2010)Allan Lee Reed, 61, a resident of Simi Valley for the past 30 years and other California cities since 1973, died June 1, 2010, after a long illness.

He was born June 12, 1949, in Powell to Edwin and Eleanore Reed. Allan attended grade school through junior college in Powell. When he was growing up, he was very active in all sports, but especially baseball and football. His passion for sports led him to win many awards.

Allan enjoyed living in southern California and spent time furthering his education in business administration and accounting — he earned an associate degree, a bachelor's and two master's degrees over the years. He was also involved in scouting, hiking, photography and country-western dancing. One of his favorite places was the Cowboy Palace in Chatsworth, Calif. He had an adventurous spirit and spent a year working on an oil rig in Libya.

His travel was limited after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 1980, at the age of 31. He had a warm, giving spirit and great sense of humor, and he spent many years looking after his aging parents.

Allan spent the last 15 years of his life working as an accounting manager for the Simi Valley Adult School, where he was well-loved and respected by his peers.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanore and Edwin Reed, and by his niece, Larissa Cox.

He is survived by his brother James Reed of Reno, Nev.; his sister, Marilyn Cox of Jefferson, Ore.; nephew Aaron Cox (Evelyn) of Valencia, Calif.; and many cousins in Wyoming and Montana.
