Charles Austin Bailey died in Cody on Dec. 9, 2015, surrounded by family. He was 86.

He was born in Wolfdale, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 4, 1929, the third of eight children, to Glenn Barns Bailey and Anna Mabel Cox Bailey.

He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served on the USS Roosevelt.

After his tour of duty, he returned to the Pittsburgh area and worked as a truck driver. He was also appointed a constable for Westmoreland County with one of his duties being the dog officer.

One hunting trip out west in the early 1950s quickly became an annual trip with memorable hunts. In the late 1960s he purchased property on Green Creek Road in Wapiti, where he displayed his craftsmanship in carpentry with his log cabin structures.

He loved the Western way of life. In 1972, Chuck and his older brother David purchased what was then known as the Eagle Valley Guest Ranch.

Like his father, he loved the open road and trucking.

Charles led a full, interesting, happy life and will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife for many years, Joan Bailey; two daughters, Betty Ann (Bill) Washburn of Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Jamie (Cooper) Jackson of Cody. He is also survived by his former wife Martha; grandchildren Marty Lynn Giunto, Chuck Washburn, Kurt Bailey, Brooke Bailey, Austin West, Gabriel Bailey, Tanner Bailey and Natalie Bailey; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews; brother Glenn (Lorraine) of Woodland Park, Colorado, and his youngest brother, Donald (Adrienne).

He was preceded in death by his sons, Charles A. Bailey, Jr. and Jason C. Bailey; parents, Glenn B. Bailey and Mabel Bailey, and siblings, David Bailey, Laura Speakman, Valerie Goughnour, Bernard Bailey and Jane Hamlin, along with one great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Giunto.

Ballard Funeral Home has handled cremation services and at Charles’s request, there will not be any funeral services.
