Charlotte Belle “Sug” Kersting, 70, of Cody, died on Aug. 31, 2014, surrounded by her family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1943, in Port Orchard, Wash. Her family moved to Cody in 1946 when she was 3 years old. She attended Cody schools and graduated from high school in 1962.

During her high school years she loved working at her mother’s businesses, Mickey’s Market and the War Surplus Store, which were owned by her parents.

She moved to Denver and attended and graduated from Denver Business College with her degree as a para-professional. While there she met Hubert Dwain “Dewey” Kersting, of Powell, and they were married upon his return from the Vietnam War, in November 1968. They later divorced and she moved to Riverton and was half owner/operator in Hilltop Liquors.

Sug moved back to Cody in 1979 to care for her mother, and worked for CPA’s Oliver Dawson until his retirement, Don Robirds until his retirement, Stine, Hiser and Buss, and Barb Hamilton before retiring herself. Upon retiring, she kept working as a part-time bookkeeper for Bear Tooth Country Flowers as she said she was not ready to stop working yet and found herself bored not doing anything at all. She enjoyed working with the public and visiting with people. She was a very hard worker and always on the go.

She enjoyed bowling, especially the women’s league where she had so many good friends and they traveled around the state and surrounding states for tournaments. She also enjoyed crocheting when it was cold out. Sug worked tirelessly in her yard and on her home and was awarded the Pride in Property award, which she treasured.

She loved going to the movies with her friends and family and could always be seen out for breakfast, which was her favorite meal of the day. She enjoyed going to community concerts, attending Cody events, and loved the Fourth of July celebrations.

Sug enjoyed very much watching her grandchildren grow and attending their activities; her favorite sports teams were the Meeteetse Longhorns and Lady Horns and she was always in the stands cheering for them, and hollering at the refs if need be. She always put her family first and many kids called her “Mom” and “Grandma,” not just her own children, and she loved them all. She will be missed by many, as she always had a smile and story to share.

Sug was preceded in death by her parents Charles Daniel “Dan” Wilson and Myrtle “Mickey” Fultz Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Tracy) Renner of Meeteetse; grandchildren, Wilson and Karlie Renner of Meeteetse; sister Rosalind Joan Voss of Riverton; nieces Stephanie (Rusell) Kobbe of Riverton, Jamie (Dan) Claar of Boise; nephew Allan Kersting of Cody; great-niece and -nephew Tieler and Jared Kobbe of Riverton and many good friends who she considered family.

There will be a celebration of life in the Orchid Room at Cassie’s, Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Spirit Mountain Hospice House at 808 Canyon View Ave. Cody, WY, 82414. Ballard Funeral Home is handling the cremation services.
