The freshman and junior varsity Powell football squads had seasons to remember, as both finished undefeated.
The freshmen finished the year with a 3-0 record while the junior varsity squad ended the season 4-0.
“Both squads were very coachable, as they were quick to want to learn and improve,” coach Tim Heine said. “They all had great motivation and a deep drive to want to win.”
He said that there was a large number of freshmen in the Panther program this year, which brings more excitement to the high school level as the new players contributed to both levels of action this season.
“We had a large group of freshmen playing this year, it was great to see so many players wanting to take part and contribute to Powell Panther football,” Heine said.
He said that throughout the year the program saw great improvement across the board for both the freshman and junior varsity teams.
“By the end of the season we (the coaches) had seen many players make improvements and grow from where they were at the start of the year,” Heine said. “It would be hard for me to single out any one single person, but I will say that the defense on both the JV and freshman teams were exceptional and the running game was quite exciting to watch on the offensive side.”
He said the work ethic of the Panthers is what drove them to their success, while they also found a way to have fun each day.
“I would have to say watching the work ethic in the younger players grow was quite exceptional, as well as seeing the drive that the players had to want to improve themselves and win every time they stepped on the field,” Heine said. “They did all that while having fun, which made every practice and game all that much better.”
He said that moving forward that the younger Panthers will fit in well with the varsity program as they continue to grow, each bringing something different to the program that can help Powell be competitive in the future.
“I think they will all fit in quite well with the varsity program as they grow and learn in the game,” Heine said. “They each bring something different to the program that can help Powell continue to be competitive.”
He added that it was an exciting season for the lower levels, and he and the Panther coaches look forward to seeing what they can do in the future.
