In honor and memory of the late Alan Jones of Powell, Gov. Mark Gordon has ordered Wyoming state flags to be flown at half-staff in Park County and at the state capitol building on Friday.
Jones served in the Wyoming Legislature from 1999 to 2008, representing House District 25. The Republican was initially appointed to the post and went on to be reelected four times before opting to retire.
In addition to his legislative service, the Powell native was the longtime owner of Dick Jones Trucking and he was involved in numerous community organizations. He died on Sept. 26 at the age of 79.
"Beyond the organizations he helped and the awards he received, he was just a great guy," Jones' family wrote in his obituary. "He never met a stranger and lived life by the philosophy … it’s a great day to have a great day."
Gov. Gordon's order to fly the state flag at half-staff applies from sunrise to sunset on Friday in Park County and at the Capitol. A celebration of life for Jones is scheduled for later this month at Dick Jones Trucking.
