A pair of former University of Wyoming student-athletes are competing on the world’s biggest stage participating in the Olympics in Tokyo. Mason Finley represented the United States in the discus throw and Nathan Sobey is representing Australia in men’s basketball.
Sobey has helped lead the Australians to the semifinals in men’s basketball. The Boomers were set to face the United States Wednesday evening.
Sobey entered the contest playing 6.2 minutes per game so far in the Olympics. He is averaging 3.0 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and behind the arc. He is also adding a rebound per game and 0.5 assists per contest.
Finley won the Men’s Discus at the 2021 U.S Olympic Trials, with his best throw of the day at 206 feet, 11 inches. It was his second straight appearance at the Olympic games. Finley did not qualify for this year’s finals in the discus throw, placing No. 12 in group B on July 29. He threw for 197 feet, 11 inches during the preliminaries.
