Dear editor:
Shortly after Charlie Kirk’s wrongful murder, many Republicans called upon us to stop using hateful, dehumanizing language. They encouraged us to follow Charlie’s religious approach of love. Have they looked in the mirror?
Last Christmas Trump posted that the “thugs” promoting green energy and open borders could “rot in hell.” He has called immigrants “vermin” that poison the nation’s blood, and constantly belittles others with name-calling and lies.
Trump told Charlie’s memorial crowd that “I hate my opponent.” Trump’s press secretary said such hate-filled authenticity is why “millions of Americans across the country love him and support him.”
But Jesus verified that attaining eternal life under the law requires love of God and our neighbors, as the good Samaritan did in Luke 10:25-37. A robber’s victim was left half-dead, receiving no help from a priest or church official, but saved and cared for by a non-Jewish man who provided healing, money and lodging. MAGA policies and Trump’s actions seem more like the robber’s than the Samaritan’s. The Republican’s big bad bill took food, money and health care away from the poorest citizens to extend (yes, to renew) a self-serving 10-year-old tax cut for the wealthy, mostly.
Trump’s ever-increasing national sales tax (tariffs) simply show this nonChristian attitude in action, once again. With MAGA, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
When will our so-called Christians demand that the government act according to the law? When will we honor the Samaritan and “go and do likewise” as Jesus commanded? When will we stop amassing money for money’s sake and start providing for each other’s health and well-being? No amount of earthly wealth, power, or pleasure can compensate for the eternal loss of one's soul. See Mark 8:36.
Trump’s allies by the millions are transforming our three branches of government into a one-trunk dictatorship — an oligarchy of money-oriented tyrants with mobster-like mentalities. In my opinion, MAGA means “Make America Go Away.”
