Vote yes on Proposition 1
Dear editor:
Proposition 1 is on the general election ballot. It would grant a 50% reduction in the assessed value of a person’s primary residence and reduce a citizen’s property tax bill. This ballot initiative has been in the works for over two years.
There is of course disinformation, misinformation and fear mongering out of the typical special interests who live high on the hog off YOUR tax dollars. There is no threat to essential services. Park County saw a 36% revenue increase between 2019 and 2025. When the initiative passes, there would only be a 7% reduction in revenues which would roll back revenues to 2022 levels; where there was more than enough money to run things.
Households have been tightening their belts and adjusting since Covid and it has only gotten harder for people this year. And businesses are always adjusting, even in good times, to cut expenses and optimize performance. Why is government somehow immune and above having to do what everyone else does? The people deserve the relief and it provides a good incentive for government to do what the rest of society does: optimize and be more business-like in running things rather than just being an insatiable black hole of tax and spend.
Vote yes for Proposition 1.
