Local veterans will be honored during several events on Thursday.
The annual Veterans Day ceremony at Powell High School begins at 10 a.m. Thursday in the school’s auditorium. The PHS band and choir will perform.
That afternoon, Powell Middle School will host a program for veterans at 2:50 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. Attendees are asked to enter the middle school through the activities door (on the southwest side of the building).
Veterans and their families are invited to attend the events at both schools.
On Thursday evening, the American Legion Hughes-Pittinger Post 26 in Powell will host its annual Veterans Day dinner at 6:30 p.m. All local veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces are invited to attend the meal.
The dinner will include pork loin, potatoes, dinner rolls, salad and cake. Beef stew will be served as an alternative to ham.
Youth with Boy Scout Troop 26 and Cub Scout Pack 144 will serve food, honor veterans and escort them upon their arrival.
“We hope to serve as many of our local veterans as possible and will always do all we can to accommodate all,” said Post Commander Russell Stafford.
Veterans are asked to RSVP or request takeout by contacting americanlegionposg26@gmail.com or Stafford at 706-830-4648, Auxiliary President Patty Paulsen at 307-254-1357 or Sons Commander Vaughn Paulsen at 307-271-1426.
