(Apr. 6, 2009)
Velma Leona Ferebee, 89, died Monday, April 6, one week after her 69th wedding anniversary, at the Powell Valley Care Center.
Velma was born June 7, 1919 in Imperial, Neb., the only child of James and Lillie May (Weiss) Clark. Velma’s mother passed away two weeks after she was born, so Velma was raised by her maternal grandparents. Her father remarried and had seven more children.
Velma married Donald Euvaugh Ferebee on March 31, 1940 in Grant, Neb. Velma and Don raised two children, Terry and Sharon. The family lived in Nebraska before moving to Cody in 1958, where Velma lived until December 2007, when she went to the Powell Care Center.
Velma will always be remembered for being a full time wife and mother, one of the highest salaried jobs, to her husband, son and daughter where the payment was pure love.
Velma will be known and missed for her loving and caring ways by her family and friends.
She loved to crochet and make beautiful afghans and other items to give to family and friends. She enjoyed her canasta ladies club for many years, and enjoyed her time at the Cody Senior Center. She loved her Lord and her church. Velma epitomized loving warmth and kindness to her grandchildren. Her only regrets were that she was not able to ride in a roller coaster or on a motorcycle.
Velma is survived by her husband of 69 years, Don, children Terrance Ferebee (Lois) of Fort Collins, Colo., and Sharon Utter of Powell; two brothers, Lyle Clark and Lowell (Barbara) Clark; one sister, Margie Clark; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Velma is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters and 2 son-in-laws.
Memorial services will be held at the Cody Bible Church at 11 a.m., May 13.
Memorials in Velma’s name can be sent to Cody Senior Center or her church, Cody Bible Church.
