Val L. Wheelwright

Val L. Wheelwright, 62, died peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 16, 2010. He was born Aug. 17, 1948, to Farrar “Tuff” and Frances Mortensen Wheelwright. 

He spent many winter days with his cousin plowing snow. His dad had him working for Wheelwright Construction when he was 8 years old. After graduating from Ogden High School in 1967, Val joined the Navy Seabees and served in Vietnam. He worked in construction for the rest of his life, including Big-D and R&O Construction. He was a 30-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. 

Val married Sandi Sackett and they had two daughters, Bobbi (Craig) Wheelwright Charlesworth and Jerilyn (Brett) Rockhill. They later divorced. He married Pam Visser  and they had a daughter, Regina (Joe) Faxon. They divorced and he married Cindy Dicks Tanner in 1982, adding three more children to his family, Shad Tanner (Liah Baron), Joel (Rheannon) Tanner, Chelsea Neal (Joe Miller), and son-in-law, Jay Neal. He also had another daughter, Greta (Paul) Hutchinson. He had 22 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter; two nephews, Tod (Susan) Wheelwright and Alan (Sheri) Wheelwright; and one niece, Terri (Bruce) Evans. He is also survived by two best friends, who he considered family, Val Creamer and Rob Birch as well as his cousin Jim Watts. Also surviving is his wife’s family; mother-in-law Pearl Dicks, brothers-in-law Dee (Vicki) Dicks and Hal (Barbara) Dicks and many nieces and nephews, all of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Larry; his father-in-law, Emet (Dad) Dicks; and brother-in-law, Ken Dicks (Franks) of Wyoming.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at Ogden City Cemetery under the direction of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
