A Powell-based irrigation specialist has received recognition for a publication detailing the basics of soil water.
Vivek Sharma recently received the Educational Aid Blue Ribbon Award for “Irrigation Management: Basics of Soil Water” from the American Society of Agricultural Biological Systems Engineers.
Sharma is an assistant professor in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Department of Plant Sciences and based at the University of Wyoming’s Powell Research and Extension Center.
The publication discusses the fundamental concepts of soil and water relationships for efficient irrigation scheduling.
“Understanding soil water relationships assist in decision-making in agriculture and natural resource management,” said Sharma.
He received the award at the ASABE annual international meeting in Boston. The awards competition promotes excellence in informational materials that contribute to the understanding of agricultural and biological engineering subjects outside of the traditional classroom setting.
