Unplug and reconnect with God and your loved ones in the coming year

Posted

Twenty five years ago the world was ending. Y2K was going to be the end of the world as we knew it. (For everyone reading this over the age of 40, you just sang the song).  Somehow we survived. Computers and technology have come a long way since then; smartphones, watches and AI tell us more than we really want to know. They are able to perform so many tasks that, if in 1999 someone could have told you what they could do, you would have laughed in their face.

Yet there are still some things all the technology in the world cannot do, but you can. In 2025, I want to challenge you to connect with your family, friends and God. Hug your kids more, and tell them you love them with your voice. Write a letter; don’t talk to your phone and let it write, hand write it and send it to someone you care for. Load up the family and go to Yellowstone. Pay it forward and be generous to someone. If need be, have a conversation with someone without your cellphone in your hand.

Technology is great. I use it every day,  just like you. In 1999, we were terrified that technology was going to be the end of us. Sadly, technology has hurt, and perhaps destroyed, a few things, like personal relationships. As a pastor who, again, uses it all the time, I see where technology is hindering our relationship with our creator, God. I want you to break some of the chains we all have allowed it to bind us with and reconnect with family and friends. More-so, I want to encourage you to reconnect with God, perhaps connect with him for the first time. Set aside time each day to read an actual physical Bible. Turn off the distraction of the messages, emails and fast food notifications and talk to God one-on-one.

In reality the world is ending, the Bible clearly says that it will be destroyed. It may be in 2025 or 3045, no one knows. Either way, connect with people and God in 2025. If you would like more information on how to connect with God and have a relationship with him, please email me at pastor@victorypowell.org.

It is hard to believe we were so scared back then because everything ran on a computer. If the computers couldn’t change over to Jan. 1, 2000 the world was going to stop, or at least we thought. Today, we are using computers, AI and so many other forms of technology that could not have even been dreamed of in the year 1999. Nobody is worried about the world ending. Yet it is ending. Just like every person begins to die as soon as they are born. The world also has an appointed time that it will end. Like for us humans only God knows the date of when that will be.
