Two Powell seniors named Daniels Scholars

A pair of Powell students will receive the Daniels scholarship, which covers educational expenses at any accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States.

Rachel Ann Kuntz and Isabella May Wambeke, who both attend Powell High School, were selected for the 2020 class of Daniels Scholars.

Lauren Jane Mitchell from Lovell High School and Justin Hopkin Dausman from Rocky Mountain High School also were named Daniels Scholars.

A total of 212 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming were chosen for the honor out of 2,265 applicants.

Daniels Scholars are selected based on their exceptional character, leadership, commitment to the community, academic performance and promise, well-roundedness, and emotional maturity. The scholars uphold the values that were emphasized by the late cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, founder of the Daniels Scholarship Program.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these impressive young people and can’t wait to see what they will do with this opportunity,” said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “Our goal is to help each of these scholars succeed in college and ultimately become independent, successful in a rewarding career, and actively engaged in their community.”

The program covers the scholars’ educational expenses that remain after other scholarships, financial aid and their family contribution have been applied.
