Trapper Bonanza is a successful two-day event

A successful two-day fundraiser for Northwest College athletics saw a good turnout for the annual Trapper Bonanza at the Powell Golf Club on Friday and Saturday.

The festivities kicked off Friday with a dinner and auction for the Calcutta on Saturday during the golf tournament.

“Friday night was really good,” Northwest Athletic Director Brian Erickson said. “Friday it rained all day, there was expected rain on Saturday. We didn’t really know what we were getting throughout the week — by the time Saturday showed up it was a beautiful day.”

Winning the overall Bonanza was West Hernandez, Dick Fisher, Tracy Copenhaver and Rob Hill.

That group also took first place for the Calcutta, while also tying for the $500 Trapper Challenge on hole No. 9.

Since the groups tied it went to a chip-off, with the group of Hernandez, Fisher, Copenhaver and Hill coming out on top once again — donating back the $500 prize to Trapper Booster Club.

“It ended up being a really good weekend,” Erickson said.

Erickson said that the overall fundraising from the event will be approximately $10,000 after everything is said and done — keeping pace with the average brought in from the annual event since the Calcutta started.

He said that one of the main motivations for the weekend is to get people out into the community to get excited about Trapper Athletics and get more involved when the sports seasons  start in the fall.

“We are grateful for that support,” Erickson said. “What we hope is that it builds some excitement and we can get some of those people to come to a game and get them in seats, hopefully supporting our coaches and student athletes. It’s a good event to get some excitement and a great fundraiser. All of that is awesome but the big goal is to get everyone gathered and excited about Northwest athletics.”
