‘The World Needs More Cowboys’ comes to Lovell

A ‘The World Needs More Cowboys’ event will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 at the Lovell Community Center. Appetizers and drinks will be served.

It’s a chance for students to learn about UW, alumni to connect with their alma mater and to learn about the college’s work in Big Horn County. UW president Ed Seidel will be in attendance and speak, as will Sundance Wicks, assistant coach for the UW men’s basketball team.

Additionally, Marissa Arnold, Mandi Jo Baxendale and Delanee Miller — current UW students from Big Horn County — will talk about their experience at the university. Faculty members and admissions personnel will be on hand to answer questions and address financial aid options for Wyoming high school grads. There will also be a giveaway of UW branded swag, including T-shirts for the first 50 high school students.

UW alumnus Joseph Shumway, vice president and branch manager of Lovell’s Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, will talk about how his UW education helped advance his career and prepare him for his role in the community, and about what it means to him to be a UW Cowboy.

This is the 11th such event in a planned series around the state, focusing on counties where alumni featured in a new advertising campaign live and work.

“It’s clear that our marketing tagline, ‘The World Needs More Cowboys,’ has connected virtually with people across Wyoming. These events are about making that connection even stronger through face-to-face interaction,” says Chad Baldwin, UW’s associate vice president for marketing and communications. “It’s a great opportunity for local students to learn more about their state’s university, for alumni to connect with their alma mater and one another, and for members of the community to meet UW’s new president along with coaches, faculty and students.”
