Dear editor:

When I wrote Sen. John Barrasso some months ago, asking that he reject Robert Kennedy Jr.'s nomination to the Department of Health and Human Services, he wrote back to say, "The president needs a strong cabinet to advance his agenda." Now America is experiencing the largest measles outbreak since before there was a vaccine for that disease. Meanwhile, we have a Secretary of Defense using unsecured messaging apps to tell his wife and colleagues about upcoming missile strikes — what a pro!

Rep. Harriet Hageman professes to be a constitutionalist. When I wrote to her reminding her of her stated position, and that it is the duty of Congress, not the president, to appropriate funding, she wrote back with a platitude about how wonderful things were under the Trump administration. I wrote her again after the president ignored not only lower courts but the Supreme Court in their admonitions to stop illegal deportation. Her reply in this case was to say, "After decisively winning this past November’s election, President Trump’s second term has gotten off to a flying start. With a clear mandate from the people that a change is needed from the disastrous four years of the Biden-Harris administration, President Trump immediately began to deliver on many of his campaign promises." It appears Wyoming has elected an inattentive representative — it's true Donald Trump won the election but the victory was in no way decisive. As a matter of fact, he didn't even win with a majority of the electorate. And the "disastrous Biden-Harris administration" was responsible for the strongest post-pandemic economic recovery in the world and the strongest American economy in 30 years.

Now we've reached the 100-day mark of Trump's presidency and polling shows a majority of Americans, some 57%, disapprove of his job performance, the lowest rating since people started doing this sort of thing. The surprise to me is that it means 43% of people approve! Are there really that many Americans who don't have retirement accounts, eat eggs, or buy anything from (or sell anything to) China?
