Diving in the deep end at the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon in Lander allowed the Powell Panther girls’ swim team to see good competition to start the season on Saturday.

Overall the Panthers had four athletes complete all five individual events in a day, giving them a chance to test their conditioning early in the season.

Powell was led by Kaitlin Diver, who took eighth overall in the standings with a time of 5:03.21. She placed fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 1 minute, 6.22 seconds, eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:17.8, 11th in the 100 free with a 1:01.16, 12th in the 100 back with a 1:09.31 and 13th in the 50 free with a 28.72.

Lynea Christensen was the next highest placing Panther in 17th with a total time of 5:36.41.

She took 16th in the 100 breast (1:23.8), 17th in the 100 fly (1:17.52), 18th in the 100 free (1:05.45), 25th in the 50 free (30.17) and 28th in the 100 back (1:19.47).

Brooke Brown was the third Panther across in 31st, totaling a time of 6:05.97.

Brown took 24th in the 100 fly (1:21.29), 29th in the 100 back (1:19.66), 36th in the 100 free (1:12.55), 38th in the 50 free (32.22) and 44th in the 100 breast (1:40.25).

Claire Hultgren was the final Panther to complete all five races, posting a time of 6:58.48 to take 48th overall.

Hultgren took 45th in the 100 back (1:27.19), 48th in the 100 fly (1:42.63), 53rd in the 100 free (1:19.24), 56th in the 50 free (34.69) and 58th in the 100 breast (1:54.73).

No team scores were kept in the event, as Lander’s Katy Anderson took the top spot by 13 seconds over second place with a time of 4:37.35.

Powell swimming returns closer to home this weekend, taking part in an invitational in Cody at 2 p.m. on Friday.
