Heading to Cody one last time on Tuesday, Oct. 29, the Powell Panther swim team competed in the Terry Bartlett Last Chance meet, with no new qualifiers joining the roster for the state meet this weekend in Cheyenne.
One Panther came close to qualifying for state, but Brooke Brown came up just over a second short of making it in the 100 back with a time of 1:16.48 to finish third.
Charlotte Beeton also came close to qualifying for the 100 fly alongside Brown, as both swimmers came up two seconds short in the race with times of 1:18.05 and 1:18.85 respectively to take third and fourth.
In the 500 free, Samantha Young claimed first with a 6:45.65 but she was approximately 10 seconds short of the qualifying standard.
The dual between the Panthers and Fillies saw a plethora of top finishes, as each Panther in attendance earned a top eight finish at the meet.
The Panthers have been preparing this past week to head to the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Cheyenne, with six athletes acquiring a qualifying mark for the final meet of the year.
Powell has made the podium four consecutive years at the state meet, but will be facing a difficult task in order to continue that streak due to the limited number of qualifiers.
Kaitlin Diver has qualified in all eight individual events, Patricia Christensen is close behind with six qualifications, Addy Powell has three, Kate Miller has two, Kumora Snell qualified in the backstroke and Myah Rakness qualified in diving.
Each athlete who has qualified is allowed to compete in up to two individual events and up to two relays in the meet.
Prelims for the state meet are scheduled to begin on Thursday afternoon at Cheyenne East High School, and finals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday morning.
