Sunday parade in Cody celebrates boy’s Make-A-Wish

Posted

On Sunday afternoon, dozens of vehicles will parade in front of Silas Johnson’s home in Cody as part of his Make-A-Wish request.

Johnson was diagnosed with craniopharyngioma — a rare kind of noncancerous brain tumor — in January 2016. He has undergone numerous treatments and hospital stays since then.

Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the 10-year-old wished for a camper and to see cars and trucks. Sunday’s parade will celebrate a new camper for the Johnson family while featuring a variety of vehicles.

“There is a HUGE amount of support from everyone about the parade for Silas,” wrote Cody Country Car Show organizers in a Facebook post. “We are just so ecstatic about this.”

To join in on Sunday’s parade, meet at 1 p.m. on the side of Road 3DX, just off the Greybull Highway. The Park County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Cody Police Department and car show organizers will be there, handling traffic and helping everyone get lined up for the parade.

It is “extremely important” for everyone to stay in their vehicles, said Holly Baker, children’s librarian at the Cody library who is helping organize the parade.

“Think about how you can show support from inside yours: Banners, horn honking, noisemakers, bubbles — be creative, while staying safe!” Baker said.

Participants are asked to decorate their cars in red, white and blue. Captain America decorations and costumes are encouraged, as Johnson is a big fan of the superhero. His younger brother, Ackley, loves Toy Story and dinosaurs, and organizers want Ackley to be included in the celebration as well.

More information can be found at the Cody Country Car Show page on Facebook.
