For sugar beet growers in the Lovell factory district, there are no weather complaints as the end of the 2024 harvest is in sight.
After unseasonably warm temperatures stalled the early piling of sugar beets, harvest conditions are “just perfect” with growers in the home stretch, said Ric Rodriguez, Heart Mountain grower and a member of the Western Sugar Cooperative beet board.
The Lovell factory district beet crop was about 60% harvested on Wednesday of this week.
“The weather forecast looks good, and most growers should finish by the end of the week,” Rodriguez said.
He is guessing that final numbers will reflect yields for the district just shy of 30 tons to the acre.
Average sugar content in this year’s crop is running a favorable 18.88%, he said.
