(Nov. 23, 1947 - Aug. 4, 2001) Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cabre Gymnasium on the Northwest College campus in Powell for Steven Louis Sims, 54, who died of natural causes Saturday, Aug. 4 at his Powell home. Pastor Dave Seratt will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery for the former long-time Northwest College administrator.He was born Nov. 23, 1947, in Abilene, Kans., to Don and Pauline (Zey) Sims, the second of eight siblings. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Emporia State College.He married Shawn Dixon at Jackson on July 25, 1981.He was first employed by NWC as director of admissions and veterans affairs in 1974. He left Northwest from 1986 to 1988 to work as director of admissions at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kans., and then returned to NWC as Dean of Students. He served in that capacity until his retirement from the college in 1998.At the time of his death, he was employed as Human Resource Director at the First National Bank & Trust of Powell.Mr. Sims coached baseball, was a member of the Powell Rotary Club and served on the board of directors of the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce and the New Life Christian Fellowship.He was district representative of Ducks Unlimited, and over the years was involved in countless student activities, projects and programs at NWC. He was a passionate Wyoming sportsman and antique collector.Above all, he was devoted to his family and friends.Survivors include his wife Shawn of Powell; his children, Matt of Kansas City, Mo., Rebecca of Houston, Texas, and Erin and Andy of the family home in Powell; his mother, Pauline Sims of Abilene, Texas; his sisters, Donita Fitchof Boise, Idaho, and Beth Schaesteen of St. Louis, Mo.; and his brothers, Tom of Salina, Kans., Jack of Newton, Kans., Dan of Abilene, Kans., and Mike of Leavenworth, Kans.He was preceded in death by his father, Don, and his brother, Ted.For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Northwest College Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
