Cindi Smith will not coach the Powell High School volleyball team this fall.
The Powell school board voted 7-0 Tuesday night to accept the recommendation of Athletic Director Tim Wormald and not rehire Smith, who had been the head coach for 17 seasons. Smith led her teams to two state titles, most recently in 2013.
Her Lady Panthers compiled a 35-3 mark in 2014 and finished third at the state Class 3A meet in November.
The board offered no comments after it emerged from a brief closed-door executive session. It would not allow any comments on a personnel matter, so no one in the packed room — about 60 people, including Smith — spoke.
All other PHS coaches were rehired, including football coach Chanler Buck, who had the interim removed from his title.
