Shirley Delores Steck passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026 surrounded with her family at her home in Cody, Wyoming.
She was born in Powell, Wyoming, to Howard and Rose Galvin on Sept. 25, 1934, and was the youngest of six children. Shirley graduated in 1952 from Powell Senior High School and married Bob Kysar. They had four children and later divorced. She then married Ronald Lee Jones and was a co-owner of Jones Plumbing and Heating until his unfortunate death in 1969. Over the years, she eventually married Dick Steck of Cody, Wyoming, and they traveled between their home in Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage, California and Cody, Wyoming.
Her job history included raising four children, a waitress, a clerk at Amoco Production, co-owner of Powell Liquor, and an accounts payable/purchasing clerk for the Park County School District to name a few. Shirley was an active member of the Heart Mountain Snowmobile Club, the Elks Lodge, the Red Hatters Society and the Global Granny’s having traveled to New Zealand, Australia and New York City with her good friend, Betty Reddock. She was very proud of her cabin by Crandall Creek in Sunlight Basin and spent as much time there as weather would permit. She would brag that she had the biggest and best backyard in the whole world! Shirley loved dancing, especially a saucy jitterbug, happy hour, the mountains and all things camping. Shirley always said that she could not get out of the shadow of Heart Mountain! She was a great cook, enjoyed crossword puzzles, a good book, snowmobiling, boating and ranch life having spent many of her early years raising her kids (and others) on the family ranch in Powell. With the passing of her late husband, Dick Steck, her partner in crime became her little Yorkipoo, Chewy.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Rick Carl Jones (Donna) of Billings, Montana; Robert Kent Jones (Jinay) of Portland, Oregon; Shelley Jo LeClere (K.C.) of Casper, Wyoming and Mollie Omicioli, Roundup, Montana; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim and Carl Galvin, sisters Dolly Galvin, Kay Kammrath, and Georgia Cockburn and son Scott Allen Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the animal shelter, 3 Dog Rescue, or a charity of your choice.
