Sherry Dianne Messier, 71, a longtime resident of Cody died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Centennial Colo. She had battled COPD for many years.

Sherry was one of six children born to Alf and Renabelle Ellingson. She was born Nov. 3, 1940 in Williston, N.D. She was raised and educated in Epping, N.D, with high school honors.

Sherry was married to Robert R. Walstad, they had four children, Nadine, Connie, Bob and Debi. She later married Hank Burns, and they had one child, Michael Burns. Her last marriage was to Bob Messier of 25 years, where she had three stepchildren, Doug, Crystal and Misty.

Sherry worked for several years at Husky Oil Refinery and H&R Block for 19 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family and her dogs, Beaux, Charo and Sheba.

Sherry will be remembered for her strength, courage and independence. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Surviving Sherry is her mother Renabelle Garaas of Bountiful, Utah; five children, Nadine Walstad of Cave Junction, Ore., Connie (Tarrel) Walstad of Centennial, Colo., Debi Paul of Cody, Bob (Belle) Walstad of Woodland Park, Colo., and Michael Burns of Cody; three stepchildren, Doug Messier, Crystal Rindal and Misty Messier; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Ron (Cheri) Ellingson of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister Carol (Don) Marchant of Bountiful, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father Alf Ellingson, her brothers Gary, Ricky and Rusty Ellingson; her ex-husband Hank Burns; and her late husband Bob Messier.

Funeral services to celebrate Sherry’s life will be held at Ballard Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.  Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. An online guestbook is available at www.ballardfh.com.
