County departments are being used for the latest scam going around in Park County, according to a post by the Park County Sheriff's Office.
As the Park County Planning and Zoning department reported to the sheriff's office, a resident called them about an "invoice" they had received via email.
"It quickly became apparent that scammers are going after people who are doing business with county offices," the sheriff's office said in the post. "Applicants know the costs up front during the pre-application meetings so he was surprised to receive an invoice for over $12,000! Thankfully he called to verify and was notified it was a scam."
The sheriff's office urges residents that anytime you receive an unexpected text, email or call that you weren't expecting, or needing claiming you owe money, for an unpaid invoice, ticket, parking fee, contact the agency, county department or business they are claiming to be.
If it's an email, county email addresses are a .gov domain and nothing else.
