Several Cody residents helping lead Lummis’ Senate campaign

In her run for U.S. Senate, Republican Cynthia Lummis has put together a campaign organization that stretches across all of Wyoming’s 23 counties.

Earlier this month, the former U.S. representative announced that she’s named more than 70 supporters to a statewide campaign committee and as county chairs. Several local leaders are on the lists.

Ann Simpson of Cody is one of 12 women that Lummis has tabbed for her statewide campaign committee. Simpson has a long record of community involvement, including serving on the board of the Wyoming Art Museum and the Park County Mental Health Board. She is the wife of former U.S. Sen. Al Simpson.

As for her Park County chairs, Lummis named longtime state Sen. Hank Coe, R-Cody, and Cody attorneys Jodie and Marc Thompson.

“In Wyoming, elections are won person-by-person, neighbor-by-neighbor,” Lummis said in a statement. “Having boots-on-the-ground in every county is essential to connecting with people in every community. I’m thrilled to have so many strong leaders on my team and look forward to working with them.”

Lummis is the presumed frontrunner in the race to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., having drawn the endorsement of both Enzi and current U.S. Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo.

However, Lummis will face at least three other Republicans in August’s primary election, including Mark Armstrong, Joshua Wheeler and Robert Short, with three Democrats — Merav Ben-David, Yana Ludwig and Chuck Jagoda — also in the running.
