Second COVID-19 case found in Big Horn County

Posted

A new case COVID-19 was confirmed in Big Horn County on Wednesday, making it the county’s second case.

Big Horn County health officials said the new case of the disease was not tied to the first, which was identified on April 12.

“Investigation reveals the exposure appears to be the result of an out of state individual attending training in our county,” Big Horn County Public Health officials said in a Wednesday news release. “This underscores the need to continue safe exposure reduction practices as have been emphasized throughout this emergency.”

They added that, “Community support and compliance is imperative at every level to protect our citizens. Safety is up to you.”

At a press briefing Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Mark Gordon specifically mentioned the new case in Big Horn County, saying he was sad to hear the news of the man’s illness.

It’s the only active case in the county known to state officials, according to Wyoming Department of Health data; the Big Horn County man who tested positive for COVID-19 back on April 12 has since recovered, as has a patient with a probable case. Park County continues to have had only one confirmed case of COVID-19 and that woman has recovered.
