A Saturday tournament at the Powell Golf Club will serve as a benefit for the Plaza Diane Community Center of the Arts.
Featuring a four-person scramble format, Plaza Diane’s Desert Pines Shootout begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The cost is $85 per player, which includes a free hot dog lunch at the turn and a customized swag pouch featuring six Callaway golf balls emblazoned with the Plaza Diane logo, six tees, two ball markers and a metal divot repair tool.
Payouts will be made to teams finishing in first through third places, with $500 in individual payouts offered to those who finish first, second and third in a skills challenge. Competitors will also battle for flag prizes valued at $50 each on all 18 holes.
Proceeds from Saturday’s tournament will help fund art education classes, gallery shows and community events held at Plaza Diane’s indoor/outdoor community center in downtown Powell.
Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts is a nonprofit organization that leases the plaza and building from the City of Powell for $1 per year. It relies on community donations and grants to maintain and operate the facility, located at the corner of Bent and Second streets.
The organization regularly hosts fine art exhibits — including an outdoor reception for an invitational show titled, ‘Flowers’ tonight (Thursday; see Page 11) — while also providing arts education, hosting community events and serving as a rental venue.
