In an annual reshuffle, the Park County School District 1 Board of Trustees selected new officers on Tuesday.
At a Nov. 23 meeting, Chairman Greg Borcher had notified the board he would not seek another term in the position. True to his word, he opened the floor for suggestions during Tuesday’s virtual meeting.
Trustee Trace Paul had indicated he was interested in stepping up to the chairman’s position after serving five years as vice chair.
That move, in turn, meant a new vice chair would have to be selected to replace Paul, and trustee Kim Dillivan said he would like a chance at the second-in-command position.
Trustee Tracy Morris accepted the suggestion she continue as board treasurer, and Lillian Brazelton was suggested as board clerk.
Those suggestions turned into nominations and the slate of officers was elected unanimously. Holding with longstanding tradition, Borcher finished the meeting, continuing as chairman for another hour and 45 minutes.
The board took care of some housekeeping items, such as approving the calendar of meetings for the 2021 calendar year. That calendar shows meetings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, with two exceptions. The July board meeting will be held on the third Wednesday of that month, and there will be no second meeting in December.
Meetings are generally held in the board room at the school administration building, but with the restrictions placed on gatherings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some of this year’s meetings — and presumably some in the early part of next year — will be held virtually with appropriate notice to the public. Those virtual meetings are streamed on the district’s social media page.
The district also approved academic school year calendars for both 2021-22 and 2022-23, following the suggestions of Superintendent Jay Curtis on the mix of instructional days and in-service days for personnel.
The board also approved updated policies on first aid, hazardous materials and pesticides, emergency disaster plans and preparedness, emergency school closures and school building and grounds security. The district is working on updating its policies and procedures and had addressed these policy updates in October.
The district also approved extra duty changes for Heidi Dicks and Michelle Giltner, dependent on participant numbers in elementary robotics at Southside Elementary. Giltner and Dicks are filling positons left open by Kristen Kloeckner and Mark Browning and the resignation of Christy Landwehr.
