Savage performs solo, with Rewinders and Crossroads

Posted

Bret Savage has more than 600 songs in his repertoire, the fruits of more than 30 years as a performing musician.

That experience comes in handy during Park County Fair week, as he'll once again be performing solo and with two local bands: Crossroads and Rewinders.

While solo, he said he likes to basically act as a "People's Choice" as he makes a point of taking requests, which is where the knowledge of so many songs comes in handy.

"None of my two shows are ever the same," he said, noting he brings along a song request book to each performance.

"I kind of like the adrenaline hit of not knowing what anyone is going to call."

It could be anything from the Beatles to the Rolling Stones to Willy Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Sinatra, Credence Clearwater Revival and everything in between.

Savage performs solo at 5 p.m. Monday, 3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi Free Stage.

Crossroads

With Crossroads, Savage completes a three generation group along with Adam Craw, a talented "crooner" and Adam's son Damion, 14, on drums.

Savage and Adam trade off on lead guitar and base for a performance of covers and Adam originals.

The group performs 8-10 p.m. Wednesday on the free stage.

The Rewinders

Savage said he runs out of time to perform with how many bands he's a part of — hence going to "emeritus status" and becoming more of a fill in as needed for the Cowley Boys — but he's stuck with The Rewinders.

The Rewinders focus on the oldies, with a list of songs touching on seven different decades across a variety of music genres, Savage said.

“I just like to make people smile and kind of have a familiarity [with the music],” he told the Tribune previously.

The band is made up of Wade Brost on rhythm guitar, Mike Holzer on bass guitar, Isaac Snyder on drums and Savage on lead guitar.

Rewinders performs 8-10 p.m. Thursday and Saturday.
