Rickey Lee “Rick” Underwood of Douglas died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at the Mountain View Regional Hospital in Casper. He was 60.
Rick was born March 24, 1951 in Lovell to Dick and Maxine Underwood. He was raised in Powell, and attended Northwest College on a basketball scholarship. After college he followed his family into the pipeline construction industry working for Chinook, Northwinds of Wyoming and Venture 101. At the time of his death, he was employed with Union Pacific Railroad, and with his wife, Phoebe, owned and operated Northgate Liquor and Lounge.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman and horseman and was happiest in the mountains, especially with family and friends. Rick also tried his hand as a PRCA cowboy participating in bulldogging and maintained his love for horses and competition to the end. Rick was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend.
Rick is survived by his wife Phoebe Underwood of Douglas; children, Shauna (Brian) Sweeney, Chad L. Underwood, Garth J. Underwood, and Brogan Underwood, all of Douglas; siblings, Suszy Novasio of Red Lodge, Mont., Reo Underwood of Douglas, Reno Henrie, and Candy Geringer, both of Glendo; and five grandchildren.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Richard Underwood and Viola Maxine (Blank) Underwood; infant brother, Shawn Lynn Underwood in 1955; Uncle Buck; Uncle Butch; and a nephew, Jeremiah.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds-Ag Building in Douglas with John Owens officiating.
A memorial to the Converse County Rural Firefighters Association in care of George Etchemendy, 540 Twenty Mile Creek Road, Lost Springs, WY 82224 would be appreciated by the family.
