Dear editor:
Turns out, the Bill of Rights is only for MAGA Republicans, I guess. I thought it ironic that, after Charlie Kirk's assassination, Republicans began claiming that transgender people shouldn't be allowed to own guns. But when people began to point out reasons why perhaps Charlie Kirk shouldn't be canonized, the firestorm really began. FCC chairman Brendan Carr said “This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” That is a direct challenge to First Amendment rights, but apparently our own Sen. Cynthia Lummis is OK with it, saying “Under normal times, in normal circumstances, I tend to think that the First Amendment should always be sort of the ultimate right. And that there should be almost no checks and balances on it. I don’t feel that way anymore.” Remember, it was OK, when Lawrence Jones of “Fox and Friends” suggested homeless people should be jailed and Brian Kilmeade went further to say “Or involuntary lethal injection, or something,” Kilmeade said. “Just kill 'em.”
Like everyone else pointing out the hypocrisy of Republican politics, I am compelled to the caveat that I do not condone political violence in any form, from any group or individual. Having said that, let's recall the chant of “Hang Mike Pence!” Or there's this quote from Donald Trump on Jan. 6 2021, “We fight like hell, and if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.”
And finally, a timely quote from “Saint Charlie” himself: “I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”
Hey wait a minute — Is Charlie Kirk advocating political violence?
