Rep. David Northrup, R-Powell, said Tuesday that he is “90% certain” he will not run again for his seat in the Wyoming House.
“I need to take care of home, take care of family,” he said.
Northrup has served in the Legislature for eight years, and prior to that he served 12 years on the Powell school board. Northrup missed most of the 2019 Legislative Session helping to care for his mother, after she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery.
If Northrup were to run again, he would face a challenger in the primary election. In February, Rachel Rodriguez-Williams announced her bid to run for the Republican nomination for House District 50. The Cody resident said Wednesday that the decision was unrelated to Northrup’s service or his reluctance to run again. She said it was a personal decision.
“The idea of running was one I’ve had now for two years now, and I just felt it was time,” Rodriguez-Williams said.
Candidates have until May 29 to file their candidacy for partisan offices.
