Remember key dates for property tax relief

Posted

Dear editor:

As the Park County assessor, I want homeowners to be aware of property tax relief programs that can help lower their taxes. Our team at the assessor’s office wants to help taxpayers understand these programs, apply on time, and meet important deadlines.

Key dates to remember:

Jan. 1 through the fourth Monday in May: Submit your Long-Term Homeowner Affidavit & Application if you or your spouse are at least 65 years old, have paid 25 years of Wyoming property tax, and reside in your home for at least eight months of the year. This program is new for your 2025 tax bill (mailed this September.)

Jan. 1 through the fourth Monday in May: Qualified veterans (or their spouse) can apply for a property tax exemption or vehicle registration credit.

By the first Monday in June: Apply for a Property Tax Refund with the Wyoming Department of Revenue. We can help with the application process. If you applied in past years, it’s crucial to apply again this year. If you have never applied before, this is the year to start.

House Bill 45: Limits property tax increases to maximum of 4% per year (with some exceptions). No application needed; it happens automatically.

Voter’s Initiative (2026): A proposal for a 50% tax break on your main home will be on the ballot for voters to decide in 2026.

More tax relief programs are being discussed in legislation as of the writing of this letter.

The Park County Assessor’s Office endeavors to serve the community in a fair and transparent manner. Please contact us for application help or questions at 307-527-8650, or stop by our office at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Terry Call
