This week, Powell Valley Healthcare staff and volunteers invite the community to join them in showing some love to the Moyer Animal Shelter.
“We will be collecting donations of dog and cat food, cash, and paper towels, in the hospital front lobby during regular business hours,” said Katie Jensvold, president of the PVHC Volunteer Services organization. “Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.”
PVHC employees will be holding a special Jeans Day on Oct. 31 to raise money for the shelter. Staff pay money to wear jeans, and all the donations go to the animal shelter.
Long time Powell resident Elfriede Milburn founded the Moyer Animal Shelter in 1997 and has been operating the shelter since. In addition to the many hours she serves at the shelter, Elfriede also serves as a volunteer at the PVHC Gift Shop. When Jensvold learned that the animal shelter was at full capacity for cats and dogs and in dire need of food for the animals, she recommended that the volunteer group host a fundraiser to help. At their meeting on Oct. 15, the PVHC volunteers voted unanimously to host a fundraiser, and invited PVHC employees to join.
In addition to the need for food for the animals, Elfriede says that there is also a great need for adoptive families.
“Getting animals adopted has really been slow for us,” said Milburn. “We have some really nice dogs and cats, and we would love for people to come check us out and see if they would like one to take home to be with their family.”
The Moyer Animal Shelter is located at 638 W. North St. For more information about the shelter, call 307-754-1019.
