The holidays can be a time when blood and blood products are in short supply for hospitals. Often the shortage is caused by a double whammy of usual donors being out of town or busy with other tasks and events, plus an increased demand for patients involved in auto or weather related accidents. Because it is still 2020, there is also the COVID pandemic to take into account, pressuring some would-be donors to remain home and avoid exposure.
That’s why participating in the hospital blood drive set for 1-5 p.m. Dec. 22 is more important than ever. The drive will take place at Powell Valley Healthcare.
Those wishing to donate may sign up at www.bloodhero.com and enter the sponsor code powellvalleyhospital or call Vitalant at 877-258-4825.
