The Powell Medical Foundation Mardi Gras fundraiser was a success, said Megan Pfefferle, executive director of the foundation, which supports Powell Valley Healthcare. The event completely sold out.
“It was a full house,” Pfefferle said. “It was a packed venue, and the food was amazing.”
After expenses, the event raised approximately $20,000, which will go toward 3D mammography equipment. Part of that total came from an auction, which brought in $11,000, and the sale of beads raised another $2,900.
The technology they’re buying is used in breast examinations and offers fewer false positives than the two-dimensional mammography the hospital currently uses. It also increases cancer detection by 30% to 50%.
Earlier this year, the hospital was awarded a $255,277 grant from the State Loan and Investment Board for the equipment, which covered half its cost. The money raised at the Mardi Gras event will help support PVHC’s share.
