I’m very excited to introduce myself as the newest intern for the Powell Tribune! My name is Nalani Jordan, and I am a senior at Powell High School. You might recognize me from the girls’ wrestling team or from throwing discus and shot put as a member of the track team.
I have always been kind of a journalism nerd. One of my favorite memories as a kid is when I would pedal my bike across town once a week, stopping at the gas station to buy an orange push pop and a newspaper off the wire rack, excited to pedal back home to delve into reading. I also loved reading National Geographic and watching documentaries.
During sophomore year, I stumbled into the journalism class. Since then, I have had the opportunity to be a reporter, opinion editor and now editor-in-chief for our school newspaper, The Prowl. I am also super interested in photography and photojournalism.
This past June, I was honored to represent the state of Wyoming at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C. I met with 50 other young journalists, and we learned from expert panels. I enjoyed touring The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, as well as the monuments and Capitol Hill.
Through these experiences, I have become very passionate about the freedom of the press. I believe it has the ability to hold people and the government accountable, foster open discussion and tell important stories.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to intern at the Tribune, and I am excited to write stories that are important to our wonderful community.
