An upcoming presentation at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center will cover the impact of climate change on rural communities.

Mary L. Keller of Cody will present “Truth in Action: Climate Reality and Rural Preparedness,” a 45-minute slideshow and facilitated discussion on Saturday, Nov. 23. The event will run from from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Heart Mountain center’s auditorium, 1539 Road 19 off the Cody-Powell highway.

Keller is an adjunct professor of religious studies for the University of Wyoming. Citing peer-reviewed science, she will present an overview of the causes of global warming, and a depiction of recent crises linked to global climate change. She will expand on the impacts to food production and human health.

Beyond examining the seriousness of the climate crisis, Keller will consider opportunities for collaboration, mitigation and adaptation in the context of rural communities.

During the event, Park County Homeland Security Director Jack Tatum will also discuss his office’s priorities for securing and preparing the community for climate-related threats. This will be followed by an audience discussion facilitated by Ronn Smith of Powell, an engineer with experience in thermodynamics and climate statistics. Sponsored by Wyoming Rising, a non-partisan political advocacy group, the event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.wyomingrising.org.
