Weighing less than 7 pounds, Lyllian Rayne Dalke already accomplished a notable achievement in her young life.
“She’s the first baby of the new year and the beginning of the decade,” said Taylor Dulaney, her mother.
Lyllian arrived at 3:12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, debuting as Powell Valley Healthcare’s first baby of 2020.
On the day after Lyllian’s birth, family members gathered in the hospital room — commenting on how cute she is and how she has the same strawberry blond hair color as her dad, Mike Dalke.
“I wonder if those eyes are going to stay that blue,” Dalke said.
Lyllian was born a week before her Jan. 9 due date and weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces at birth.
Her parents were thankful she grew really well throughout the pregnancy.
“She was a happy, healthy baby, the whole time,” Dulaney said.
They’re also thankful the labor and delivery went well. Dr. Jenkins Clarkson was Dulaney’s physician and delivered the baby.
Lyllian’s parents had hoped she might arrive before Christmas, as Dulaney had some health complications related to the pregnancy. After Christmas came and went, Dulaney was induced on New Year’s Day at around 8 p.m.
Dalke’s 8-year-old daughter, Alice, stayed up that night, awaiting news of her baby sister’s arrival.
“She’s so excited,” Dulaney said.
Dulaney chose the first name Lyllian, and Dalke chose Rayne as the middle name.
Lyllian is a family name — Dulaney’s mother considered naming her Lyllian after her great-great aunt.
Lyllian’s grandparents are Stacy and James Ross, and Ben and Michell Dalke.
“They’re going to be amazing parents,” said Stacy Ross.
Family members also said they’re excited to babysit Lyllian and take her camping, four-wheeling and fishing someday.
