A Powell teenager was in critical condition in a Billings hospital Monday following a one-car rollover in the Red Lake area south of Cody early Saturday morning.
Park County Sheriff’s deputies and the Cody Volunteer Fire Department responded at 2:51 a.m. to Park County Road 6WXE and found a passenger car lying on its top about 30 feet off the north side of the roadway, according to an e-mailed report from Sheriff Scott Steward.
The crash occurred about 1/2 mile south of the cattle guard where Skyline Drive becomes County Road 6WXE. A call reporting the crash came into the Park County Dispatch Center at 2:45 a.m. Saturday. A dispatch report said the sheriff’s office lost contact with the person who called it in, and the number was disconnected on call back.
Michael Hothan, 25, of Powell directed responders to where Alexa Lazar, 16, of Powell was lying about 30 feet from where the car came to rest. She had been covered with a coat and appeared to be unconscious. She was bleeding from her mouth and facial area, Steward said.
Hothan told deputies he was a passenger in the car, and Lazar, who he knew only as “Lexi,” was driving. Neither was wearing a seat belt, and Lazar was thrown from the car during the rollover, while Hothan said he was thrown into the back seat of the vehicle, Steward said
Both were transported by ambulance to West Park Hospital in Cody. Lazar was life-flighted later to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. She was listed in critical condition Monday.
Hothan was treated and released.
Lazar is a junior at Powell High School.
