Powell attorney named to Wyoming State Bar board

Attorney Scott Kolpitcke of Powell has been tabbed to represent the Big Horn Basin on the Wyoming State Bar’s governing board.

As a bar commissioner, Kolpitcke will help oversee all of the affairs of the bar, which regulates lawyers and the practice of law in the state. He’s one of 13 voting members on the Board of Officers and Commissioners.

Kolpitcke is replacing Jennifer Kirk of Basin as the representative for the Fifth Judicial District, as Kirk was recently elected as the vice president of the bar. Kolpitcke will finish out Kirk’s term, which runs through September 2026.

Kolpitcke graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1996 and obtained his Wyoming and Colorado law licenses that same year. Following a brief stint in Laramie, he joined Copenhaver, Kitchen & Kolpitcke in Powell in 1998.

He represents school districts, cities and individuals throughout Wyoming, including the cities of Powell and Cody and the Powell school district. He regularly gives presentations to local governments on school law, Title IX, employment law, government ethics and other issues.

Kolpticke has also defended clients in employment disputes before the EEOC, Labor Standards Division, Office for Civil Rights and other state and federal agencies.

In addition to his new duties on the bar’s Board of Officers and Commissioners, Kolpitcke serves as a Wyoming Supreme Court-appointed member of the Character & Fitness Committee. That panel screens applicants to the Wyoming Bar to ensure they satisfy the requirements for becoming Wyoming attorneys.

Closer to home, Kolpitcke serves on the board of directors for the Powell-focused Moyer Community Foundation.
