Powell area churches celebrate Easter

The following local churches reported service information to the Tribune:

• Glad Tidings Church will show the movie “Risen” at 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday. Easter Sunday service will be at 10:45 a.m.

• The Church of Christ will have an Easter sunrise service. The congregation will meet at the church at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, then leave for Polecat Bench north of Powell. There will be Resurrection Day services at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the church. 

• The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ General Conference coincides with Easter this year so members will join around the world virtually for services. They are at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday at www.Churchofjesuschrist.org

• Faith Community Church will join New Life Church for a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. and will celebrate the resurrection at 8:30 and 10 a.m. at its own sanctuary. The church is sponoring the movie “Risen” at the Vali Twin Cinema at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and April 8. Admission is free, donations to the theater are appreciated.

• First Southern Baptist Church will celebrate an open communion service from 5-7 p.m. on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, service will be presented at 10:45 a.m.

• First United Methodist Church Maundy Thursday service will be held at 5 p.m. in Lovell and 7 p.m. in Powell. The Powell service will be in conjunction with the Union Presbyterian congregation at the Methodist Church. The churches will also celebrate a Good Friday service together at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The Good Friday service will be held at 5 p.m. in Lovell . A sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery on Easter, and services will be at 9 a.m. at Lovell and the Powell congregation will gather for its worship service at 11 a.m.

• Grace Point’s Good Friday service will begin at 6 p.m. On Easter Sunday, the church will host a potluck breakfast from 9-9:30 a.m. The church’s Easter Sunday service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

• Hope Lutheran will have a Maundy Thursday and Good Friday service, both at 6:30 p.m. The church’s Easter Sunday services will be at 8:45 and 10:15 a.m.

St. Barbara’s Catholic Church’s Holy Week celebration begins with Mass on Holy Thursday, The Lord’s Supper at 6 p.m. followed by the washing of feet. Good Friday Liturgy begins at noon, followed by Stations of the Cross at 6 p.m., with confession by request thereafter. On Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass will be at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, the church will have Mass at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and Latin Mass at 11 a.m. Masks are required.

• St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Good Friday service will be at noon via Zoom. Email stjohnspowellwy@gmail.com for a link. There will also be an Easter morning service via Zoom and parishioners can use the same email for a link. On Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate Holy Communion at 5 p.m. at the church. Masks will be required.

• Union Presbyterian Church’s Maundy Thursday service will be in conjunction with the First United Methodist Church’s service and begins at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The churches will also celebrate a Good Friday service together at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church. A sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery on Easter, and the church will have a brunch in its own sanctuary at 9 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. 

• Charity Baptist Church will hold services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., but will hold communion in conjunction with Easter Sunday morning services. 

  New Life Church of Powell will hold a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. and Easter Sunday services at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m.  and 11 a.m.

Trinity Bible Church will not be having Sunday school at 9 a.m. but will be having both a 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. service.
