Powell and Park County libraries have many activities on tap for April

The Powell Library has a jam-packed month filled with activities, starting with National Library Week, April 4-10. Park County libraries will be celebrating at each location and on social media. The Powell Library will have fun trivia questions for adults and a sweet surprise for children who visit.

Meanwhile, the Park County Library System has launched a new website, designed to be more user friendly and easier to navigate. Visit parkcountylibrary.org to learn about the library’s digital resources and programs coming up.

Park County libraries are celebrating April 12 as D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) day, on beloved author Beverly Cleary’s birthday. Celebrate the importance of reading and share photos on the library’s Facebook pages of you dropping everything and reading. The Powell children’s librarian will have bean bags and popcorn ready for kids who want to drop everything and read at the library.

Powell Library is partnering with Northwest College and will host a blood pressure clinic from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13. NWC nursing students will provide free blood pressure checks, with no appointments necessary.

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, Powell Library will be hold an adult craft program, where attendees can learn to decoupage terra cotta pots.

Park County libraries will offer a virtual reading with children’s author Todd Tarpley at 10 a.m. April 23. The library has Tarpley’s picture books available for checkout. Visit any of the Powell, Cody or Meeteetse libraries to listen live, or request a Zoom link and participate from home. There will be a Q&A session after the reading with the author.

At 3:30 p.m. on April 8 and April 29, children can sign up to read to Major, the service dog. Children can practice their reading and become confident readers as Major follows along.

At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, stop by any of the libraries to join the silent book club. It offers a chance to share what you are currently reading or just see what others are reading. After a quick share session, find a quiet spot in the library to read.

The Powell Library offers Story Time at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday and Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m. every Monday and Friday.
