Pottery studio opens today on Bent

Posted

A couple from Cowley is firing up the kiln and welcoming in the community to a new pottery studio they’ve opened this week in the old Backstreet Pub location in the parking lot on South Bent Street.

Milissa and Joe Denevan, both originally from Lander, have lived in Cowley for the last 12 years.

“Joe has done pottery since high school, and he always says the best part is opening the kiln,” Milissa said. “That is where the name came from. Opening the kiln to see the treasures within brings out the goblin in us all! Joe retired from the military a few years ago and this business is how we want to give back to the community.”

While Joe is the potter, Milissa is taking on bookkeeping duties. She said they plan to offer classes and studio memberships to the community to get more people involved in art and “let more people feel the goblin-esque joy of creating beautiful treasures.”

Kiln Goblin Studio will be open Tuesday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and will be offering paint-your-own pottery events on the first and third Fridays of the month starting June 19.

“We have a shop with pottery available to purchase as well, mugs, vases, ocarinas, udus and the newest addition a ceramic grammaphone,” Milissa said. “Coming soon our studio will play host to Becky’s Horse Hair Hitching, a business out of Lander. Becky will be teaching a horse hair braiding class in July. We hope to have many more artists teach their craft from a variety of medias.”
