Postal Food Drive planned for May

Posted

Dear editor:

Powell Valley Loaves and Fishes is kindly asking our generous community to participate in the Postal Food Drive on Saturday, May 10. Ideally, our postal carriers are hoping that everyone interested in donating will drop off food at the back of the post office on Saturday morning after 9 a.m. Your donations may also be dropped off at the annex. If this is not possible, postal carriers will collect bagged food placed beside your mailbox, both inside the city limits, as well as, in rural areas on that day. Additional instructions will arrive in your mailbox prior to May 10 to encourage your participation.

Our pantry provides for local families in need. As a board, it is our intent to safeguard the nutrition and safety of the food to be distributed. So we are asking that you kindly check the condition of the canned goods to be donated. Loaves and Fishes is unable to utilize or store food that is beyond its best-by-date, is dented, opened, partially used or showing signs of neglect. We are thankful you will honor the recipients by ensuring your donations are both nutritious and safe.

Powell Valley Loaves and Fishes would like to thank the many post office employees, pantry volunteers, and big-hearted community members who make this drive possible. We would not exist without your frequent kindnesses and continuous support.
