Pioneers release tentative schedule

Posted

The Powell Pioneers American Legion baseball team has unveiled its preliminary schedule for the 2012 season. Included are 18 home games, including the program’s Heavy Metal Classic and the 2012 District tournament.

The Pioneers are looking at a total of 51 games this year, not counting the postseason. A limited number of B-team games have also been scheduled throughout the summer.

“We’ve had 19 kids out,” said Pioneer head coach Mike Jameson, who returns for another summer at the helm of Powell’s American Legion program. “That’s nice because it means we have kids competing for every spot on the roster. That will help to push everyone to get better.”

The higher number of participants also enabled the team to schedule some earlier games, knowing that even if students had conflicts with other events, the team would have enough participants to field a squad.

The Pioneers will once again be in a quadrant with Cody, Lovell and Riverton. The four teams will be seeded for District purposes and will face off against the Northeast quadrant teams.
