The quest to repeat as state volleyball champions begins for the Lady Panthers Friday at high noon.Powell, the top seed from the north, will take on Lyman in the Worland High School gym in the first round of the 3A West Region Volleyball Tournament. Powell's matchup with the Lady Eagles will be followed by the a contest between Worland and Pinedale, a match scheduled for 1:30 p.m. A win by Powell will put them into the semi-final match against either Worland or Pinedale in Friday's final contest scheduled for 8 p.m. Should they lose, they will play a loser-out match with Worland or Lander at 5 p.m.On the other side of the bracket, Mountain View, the south's top seed will open play at 9 a.m. against Lander. Cody and Jackson will play the second match on that side of the bracket, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The loser-out match on that side of the bracket is scheduled for 3:30 and the semi-final match will tip off at 6:30.Saturday begins with loser-out games at 9 and 10:30 a.m. with the winners meeting for third and fourth place at 2 p.m. The championship match tips off at 3:30.The Lady Panthers are 6-0 on the season against the north teams and defeated the four southern teams during the conference duals earlier this month. They enter the tournament favored to win despite a loss to Mountain View in a shortened tournament match early in the season.Coach Cindi Smith was unavailable for comment about the tournament due to illness.
